Who Am I?

My photo
A nobody; a nitwit; a pilot; a motorcyclist; a raconteur; a lover...of life - who loves to laugh, who tries to not take myself (or anything) too seriously...just a normal guy who knows his place in the universe by being in touch with my spiritual side. What more is there?

Who's To Blame For America?

Rich white guys have certainly been taking a lot of heat lately. And that got me thinking, which is usually not a good thing.

1) If we had left the area of land now known as the U.S. to the Native Americans, what would they have done with it? Would they have developed it into the Greatest Country On Earth? Would they have built the steel and textile mills and the railroads and the highways, and the automotive and aviation industries? Would they have come up with this wacky "democratic republic" form of government? Would they have gone to the moon?

I think we can safely answer those questions.

2) Who were the people who actually did begin the modern development of this country? Umm, gee, could it have been well-to-do white guys from Europe (mostly England) who risked it all and brought their families over here looking for a better life? Could it have been those "rich white guys" who dreamed of a government for and by the people, where citizens were not only free but also encouraged to pursue their fortunes?

If it were not for "rich white guys," would we even have the America we know and love today? …The country where so many people risk life and limb to get here so they can enjoy the pursuit of "the American dream?" ...The country where you have the freedom to demonstrate and criticize and complain?

Seems to me that instead of denigrating and castigating "rich white guys" and blaming them for all of the wrongs, and all of the faults of the U.S., you should simply say, "Thank you!" Because if not for them, America would be one big Indian reservation right now.

Just say "Thank You?" How about we tax the crap out of them because they aren't paying their "fair" share? I've always thought that we need to require classes so everyone knows exactly what a progressive tax system is and why exactly Warren Buffet pays a lower percentage of his income in taxes than his secretary.

Ed, the trouble is that people like Warren Buffet didn't invent our tax code. He's taking full advantage of it, sure, but his personal wealth and the way he went about achieving it is beside the point. Back in the day when this country was just getting started, it was men of vision and yeah, wealth, that got things going. Unfortunately for history and modern day SJW's, those guys were pretty much all rich, white Europeans - the very people we demonize today.
